June 16, 2026
Prof. Jean-François Delfraissy and Prof. Franck Chauvin gathered in Grenoble to discuss the challenges of medical restraint.
As part of the 2026 National Bioethics Conference, a special conference on the challenges of “equitable care” will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., in the Boucherle Auditorium.

How can we envision a form of medicine that is relevant, ethical, and sustainable?

In conjunction with the 2026 National Bioethics Conference, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Center for Ethical Reflection and the UGA School of Medicine are organizing a special conference featuring Prof. Jean-François Delfraissyand Prof. Franck Chauvin on the contemporary challenges of medical restraint. It invites the entire academic community to reflect on the ethical, societal, and political challenges of “fair care.”

Against a backdrop marked by changing healthcare needs, hospital strain, environmental challenges, and growing questions about the appropriateness of care, the issue of “appropriate care” has emerged as a major challenge for healthcare professionals, institutions, and patients alike.

This special event will provide an opportunity for reflection and open discussion for students, teachers, and healthcare professionals.

Two major conferences will help foster discussion:

  • Prof. Jean-François Delfraissy, Chair of the National Consultative Ethics Committee (CCNE), will speak on the role of the National Bioethics Forum in the discussion on medical restraint;
  • Prof. Franck Chauvin, former President of the High Council for Public Health (HCSP), will discuss the challenges of applying the ethics of responsibility to healthcare.

A roundtable discussion bringing together experts, academics, and user representatives will then provide an opportunity to examine the concept of “fair care” in practical terms within everyday practice.
