Filming under duress

A look back at the short films made by L2 performing arts students
Training, Educational innovation
As part of their "Practical film analysis" course with Samuel Saint-Pé, L2 performing arts students were commissioned by the Bulles library to make a short film presenting some of the library's services.
n groups of 3 to 6, the students discovered the imposed content of their future film. A series of constraints were defined by the teacher in consultation with the library team. Each group then discovered the content to be respected during production.

Common constraints :
  • Make a fiction film lasting less than 10 minutes
  • Insert the phrase "Don't worry, I've done this hundreds of times before" in the dialogues.
  • Bring out Winnifred's headhunter character (casting director, bounty hunter, detective, etc.).
Constraints drawn at random by each group:
  • Film genre: western, soap opera, horror film, heist film, film noir
  • A borrowable item from the library to display: DIY tool, umbrella, raclette machine, shopping cart on wheels, badminton racket, dictaphone
  • A compulsory scene set in the library: borrow a book from the French learning section, request a book from the reserve section, make the journey to the library, look for a book on the shelf, use the computer room, use a group work room, etc.
A screening session was organized in the MaCI cinema to showcase their work, in the presence of the LLASIC UFR management, the library team and staff and teachers curious to discover the results of their work.

The task

The groups rose brilliantly to the challenge, producing films that took all the constraints into account. The audience present that day admired the work done by the second-year students.
