"Science, Society, and Communication"
The “Science, Society, and Communication” seminar is organized by MSH-Alpes and GRESEC, within the Science-Society Observatory (OSS). It brings together researchers in the humanities and social sciences (HSS) who analyze controversies as a means and practice of bringing science into the public sphere, while examining conceptions of the relationship between “science” and “society,” which are constantly evolving under the influence of communication.

Coordinated by Mikaël Chambru, associate professor at theUniversité Grenoble Alpes, this seminar places the social sciences and humanities at the center of the discussion on the challenges and issues posed by the growing importance of science—driven by technological progress and industrial models of innovation—in sociopolitical dynamics. More specifically, the aim is to take full advantage of the diversity of disciplinary approaches within the social sciences and humanities to improve our understanding of science as a social fact and a complex phenomenon, and to move beyond common discourses on its promises, hopes, fears, and doubts.

The tenth edition of this seminar will be held this year on October 13 and 20, November 3, 17, and 24, and December 1, 2026, both in person at MSH-Alpes and via videoconference.

Intended for second-year master’s students, doctoral candidates, researchers, and professionals interested in these topics, it is open to everyone without registration.
For doctoral candidates at theUniversité Grenoble Alpes, the seminar is also part of the doctoral college’s training program (registration link).
