Testimonials from former double master's students in Linguistics
Piotr
Class of 2014, Double Diploma with Krakow, currently doing a thesis in linguistics at the Pedagogical University of Krakow.
I decided to move to Grenoble after a degree at the Pedagogical University of Krakow in Romance philology, to become the graduate of Master II Sciences du Langage, specializing in linguistics. My stay in Grenoble was made possible by the 2013 CMIRA grant from the Rhône-Alpes Region. Teachers fromUniversité Grenoble Alpes (then Stendhal University) organized this exchange in cooperation with the Pedagogical University of Krakow, my home university. It enabled me to obtain a double diploma and to have a great time practicing the French language.
Université Grenoble Alpes offers a wide range of courses that provide a solid grounding in language science: lexicology, morphology, syntax, semantics, didactics and sociolinguistics. For me, this knowledge is fundamental to mastering a foreign language. I defended my dissertation with Francis Grossmann on the contrastive analysis of inheritance law terminology in Polish and French. I enjoyed working in the library, where I had access to all the information I needed. All the teachers were very committed and encouraged me to develop real autonomy in my scientific work. After my stay in Grenoble, I turned my attention to contrastive grammar in the field of legal language and the translation of legal texts.
I began my doctoral studies at the Faculty of Philology of the Pedagogical University of Krakow. The subject of my thesis, which I am currently finishing, concerns the contrastive study of intensity in the context of semantic vagueness in the language of Polish and French law. The theoretical and practical knowledge I acquired during my studies in Grenoble enabled me to choose the discipline I wish to focus on in my scientific studies, and to feel more confident in the use of French during the courses I give at the Pedagogical University of Krakow.

Class of 2018, Double degree with Krakow, Freelance translator
After graduating from Krakow University of Science and Technology (AGH) in the Faculty of Drilling, Oil and Gas, and having passed the French Baccalaureate, I decided to combine my two specialties and start studying French Linguistics in Krakow. During my Master 1, I discovered the possibility of continuing my studies in France. As I was very interested in the cooperation project withUniversité Grenoble Alpes, I decided to continue my studies in Grenoble. My main aim was to improve my French, but during my Master 2 courses, this evolved. I'd always been interested in translations and when I thought about studying linguistics, I had an image of a teacher or translator in my head. But the Master 2 at UGA made me discover that linguistics is present in every area of life. For me, the Master 2 was a fantastic tool.
It's a highly professionalizing course, the benefits of which are inextricably linked to the use you make of it. The other positive aspect of my studies at UGA is the human side. I'm thinking in particular of my teachers and especially my dissertation supervisors. I could always count on their help, understanding, kindness and explanations. Above all, I have to admit that obtaining the IDEX grant from the UGA was a decisive factor. It was a great financial support. Above all, it enabled me to finance myself and stay in Grenoble for two semesters.
Thanks to this training and a very diversified CV for a young graduate, I feel pretty sure of myself. I really liked Grenoble. I found the people of Grenoble very friendly. Grenoble also offers a wide range of sporting, cultural and educational activities. I also fell in love with the mountains, which is why I decided to stay in Grenoble. I work as a freelance translator in the drilling industry in three languages (French, English, Polish) and as a user assistant for a pharmaceutical company in three languages.
