Double degree with Universidade Federal do Paraná (in
Curitiba in Brazil)
This double degree is the result of collaboration between research teams in language didactics at the two partner universities. Its aim is to train professionals in the teaching of French as a foreign language, offering them international experience and thus greater employability, and to consolidate cooperation between teacher-researchers. This cooperation has already produced concrete results, including the transfer of UFPR's model for welcoming and training migrant students to UGA, and the mobility of lecturers, with their participation in conferences and presentations to students and lecturers.
Since 2015, 14 students, 6 Brazilian and 8 French, have graduated through this program. This program does not aim to form large cohorts, notably because of the supervision provided to French students at the University of Curitiba (tutored training in taking charge of FLE classes).
Students in this double degree program spend the first year of the Master's program in Grenoble (both Brazilians and French), and the second year in Curitiba. At the end of the Master's program, students obtain both diplomas, enabling them to broaden their qualifications and facilitate their professional integration. Professionalization, a key feature of the DDL Master's program, is particularly marked in this double degree.
During their first year in Grenoble, French and Brazilian students have the opportunity to take part in FLE conversation workshops with CUEF students. They can also teach FLE in an associative environment, a commitment that is credited with ECTS credits. During their second year in Curitiba, French students teach FLE at the University of Curitiba's language center (CELIN), under the supervision of a tutor. These teaching experiences, in different cultural and academic contexts, are a real plus for this double degree.
New model for face-to-face training
This academic year 2021/2022, we are setting up a
NEW MODEL based on an analysis of our training and feedback from our students. We have introduced a new course on literacy in the second year of the Master's program. The link with the field has also been strengthened to enable future teachers to better project themselves into the profession.
Two points stand out The "Construction de l'identité professionnelle" seminar offers regular meetings with professionals working in a variety of contexts. These meetings are supervised by a teacher and lead to discussions about the professional world.
We continue our close collaboration with the CUEF (Centre Universitaire d'Études Françaises) on a number of Master's courses that enable students to observe classes and design and implement e-learning scenarios with learners. Conversation workshops organized at the BULLES library are also a good way of developing practical design and facilitation skills in conjunction with theoretical knowledge.
The second year of the Master's program is marked by a long internship in France or abroad: the many international destinations include South Africa, Egypt, the United States and China. A wide variety of organizations, including Alliances Françaises, Instituts Françaises, secondary schools and associations, offer interesting opportunities for our future graduates to develop a project around the teaching/learning of FLES.
Towards distance learning...
The new training model will be rolled out by distance learning at the start of the new academic year. In recent years, webinars have been introduced in Master 1 for the "Integrating digital technology into language teaching" course, and in Master 2 with the entire administrative and teaching team. These moments of synchronous exchange help to reinforce the conviviality of the course.
An important step before the master's degree
The University Diploma in French as a Foreign Language (DU FLE) offers, either face-to-face or by distance learning, an initial introduction to the issues involved in teaching FLES. In order to position themselves as beginners, students are invited to take classes in a language that is completely unknown to them, and far removed from the other languages they know. This year, as part of the DU FLE distance learning program, language courses by videoconference are being offered in Arabic, Chinese and Polish, in partnership with the Language Service.
