The Department of Letters offers students courses from Bachelor's to Doctorate level, covering the fields of French and Francophone literature, cultural studies and civilizations, and knowledge of the cultural sector.

Visit Licence Lettres is designed to provide solid training in French literature and language Literature: students will study a wide range of French and French-language literature, from the Middle Ages to the most recent works. In addition, the Licence de Lettres will give them an opening onto other cultures, through the study of world literature and/or ancient literature.
This course is aimed not only at students interested in teaching, but also at those who wish to apply their broad literary culture and methods of analysis and expression to work in other sectors, such as the book trade, heritage and culture, or information and communication.
The Bachelor of Arts offers a wide range of courses in pre-professionalization to encourage the emergence of a professional project, and is divided into two courses: the Lettres modernes or Lettres classiques pathways.

Master
The master Arts, literature and civilization (ALC) combines traditional literary courses, a sociology of art and culture course, and a professional cultural mediation course, with progressive specialization in each of the four courses:
Literature: criticism and creation (LCC)
Sciences of Antiquity (SDA)
Comparatism, Imagination, Socio-Anthropology (CIS) with an international, multidisciplinary perspective on art.
Diffusion de la culture (DiC), a more professionally oriented course with a limited number of students, open to specific access conditions.
PhD
In France, the PhD is a research training program leading to the degree of Doctor. It takes 3 years to complete, or more depending on the discipline. The Department of Letters is home to the research unit Litt&Arts in partnership with researchers in the performing arts, in order to increase the number of fruitful cross-fertilizations between literary studies and the performing and screen arts. This cross-fertilization takes two main forms: the first is "digital convergence", which enables new ways of processing texts as well as images, voices and gestures; the second is research-creation, supported by the Maison de la Création et de l'Innovation (MaCI) in Grenoble, with spectacular facilities for cinema, theater, dance and circus, as well as for digital text.
Université Grenoble Alpes Alpes doctoral students must register with Doctoral School of Languages, Literatures and Humanities (ED LLSH). It becomes the main point of contact for doctoral students.
