Training courses in Valence

The LLASIC UFR site in Valence is home to around 200 students, from the first to the third year of a bachelor's degree. Two courses are offered.
The courses offered in Valence are identical to those in Grenoble, and are taught by lecturers from both sites. Small cohorts make for a privileged learning environment.

The university campus was formerly known as the Latour-Maubourg because it's part of the neighborhood. In 2016, the site celebrates its 20th anniversary. To mark the occasion, the building will be named after an exceptional local woman: Marguerite Soubeyran.

Bachelor of Arts, Modern Literature specialization


In addition to core courses in French language and literature, ancient languages and literatures, and comparative literature, this degree offers openings to European literature, arts in relation to literature, modern languages, image and film analysis.

The Lettres modernes course focuses on French literature and language, with an emphasis on comparative literature. Historically, it has been aimed at students intending to become teaching professions (by preparing them to transmit a literary culture and methods of analysis and expression). But it also opens the door to other professional fields and sectors, notably through pre-professionalization modules.

Visit Modern literature course is designed to provide a comprehensive literary education, and to give students the skills of analysis, synthesis and expression (written and oral) that go with it. Fundamental courses provide a multidisciplinary cultural foundation. These include French language and literature from the Middle Ages to the 21st century, the French language and linguistic tools, and world literature (courses in comparative literature, French-language literature). In addition speciality coursesThese are designed to promote dialogue between disciplines (history, visual arts, cinema, video), cultures and periods (French-language literature, comparative children's literature, the continuity of ancient cultures) and the history of writing practices (writing media, digital media).

The three levels offer the following majors:

  • A journey through the different literary genres and periods of French cultural and literary history. Each lecture is complemented by a tutorial course focusing on the analysis of complete works.
  • A linguistic approach focusing on grammar and stylistics
  • An approach to foreign works through courses in comparative literature and Francophonie.
The student also chooses :
  • A minor comprising a combination of courses in the arts and the humanities. This minor is shared with the Performing Arts - Modern Literature bachelor's degree offered in Valence by the Performing Arts department.
  • An EVL
  • Opening or pre-professional courses (courses to be chosen from the Offre de Formation Complémentaire, OFC), shared with the Licence Arts du Spectacle-Lettres Modernes, enabling students to broaden their cultural horizons and learn about the professions and practices common to both fields: film analysis and cinema, written and digital media, publishing, libraries and documentation.

Presentation and objectives

Organized over three years, the Performing Arts degree provides a general knowledge of theater and cinema, and an introduction to a variety of careers in the performing arts sector.

The courses on offer combine theoretical knowledge (history and aesthetics, text studies, performance analysis, cultural policies) with practical experience (acting, stage management, directing, programming or production workshops, etc.), and include a pre-professional component (budget management, administration, mediation, IT, etc.).

Progressive specialization

In the bachelor's degree program, courses are organized in such a way as to enable students to progressively choose their orientation
In the Arts, Humanities and Languages field, this gradual specialization takes the form of major/minor degree courses. These courses combine a major with a minor.
The courses available as minors to students in the Performing Arts - Modern Literature course are : Modern literature

The course is organized into 3 blocks for each semester:

> Fundamental teaching units (UEF)
  • UEF 1 and UEF2 constitute the major when the student opts for a progressive specialization system with a Performing Arts major.
  • UEF3 constitutes the minor when a student from another specialization opts for a progressive specialization with a Performing Arts minor.
> Modern foreign language (MFL)
> Complementary training offer (OFC): co-constructed and pooled with the other fields: this organization is based on a mapping of job families and opportunities for further study at master's level.
