Preparing for the Agrégation competitive examination

Recruitment / Administrative competitions
This is a high-level competition requiring rigorous and sustained preparation.
The agrégation competitive examination recruits future secondary school teachers (especially in lycée, with a 15-hour teaching week) and also opens the doors to undergraduate teaching (PRAG posts), but in literary subjects, it's an almost obligatory step if you want to go into higher education and research. It is also a valuable qualification for careers outside the French education system. The Department of Letters at Grenoble-Alpes University prepares students for all the written and oral exams for the agrégation in modern and classical literature.

This is a high-level competitive examination. The number of positions is much smaller than for the CAPES. Rigorous, sustained preparation is required, starting as soon as the competition syllabus is officially known: in May-June for the following year. This program changes every year.

A Master's degree is required to sit the agrégation exam. During the year, students prepare for the written exams from mid-September to the end of February, and for the oral exams from April to the beginning of June. In addition to preparatory courses for the written exams, teachers work with students on an individual basis throughout the year, to help them organize their work and overcome any difficulties they may be experiencing. A mock exam is organized and individual questioning is offered to those who qualify.
Finally, a specific borrowing protocol ensures that the books needed for preparation are available in the university libraries.
