"Book Passers

Training, Culture, Development
The "Passeurs de livres" course on the transmission of literature is aimed at student readers who want to share their love of reading.

What is the "passeurs de livres" project, and who is it aimed at?

The "becoming a book broker"is a L2 course, part of the Lettres minor, in the new curriculum to be introduced at the start of the 2021 academic year. This didactics of literature is designed to encourage students to consider the aims, methods and difficulties of transmitting literature. It is of course aimed at future teachers, librarians and other cultural mediators. But it is also aimed at all student readers who want to share their love of reading. The course covers the anthropological issues involved in reading literature, and the history of reading and books over the centuries. It also includes a historical perspective on the construction of the school discipline of Letters, on the dialogue between private and school readings, on the constitution of the book as a school object and on the evolution of legitimized corpora. We also examine the changing postures of the literary passer from the 19th to the 21st century, notably through the images portrayed in fiction and film, as well as in readers' autobiographies. Finally, students are invited to question the modalities of transmission, literary sociability, reading aloud, and the links between reading and the practice of other arts.

How did the project come about and what are the challenges?

This pre-professional course is designed to help you students to project themselves as "passers". and begin to think about the course of study that best suits them: teaching, books or culture. It is part of a series of literature didactics courses that from L1 to L3, in a training offer unique in France, enable students to measure the stakes of literary studies. It includes an introspective dimension, inviting participants to question their own relationship with literature, through a variety of writing activities, and to mobilize their skills as potential "passers-by.

Who are the teachers involved in the project?

The teachers involved in this course are teacher-researchers specializing in the didactics of literature and attached to Litextra research team literature, experience, transmission, at the heart of UMR LITT&ARTS.
