Activities

The department has more than 1400 students with whom he provides initial training and continuing education in the fields of Language sciencesFrench as a Foreign Language (FLE) and Language didacticsfrom bachelor's to doctorate levels.

On the strength of fifty or so teacher-researchersthe Language Sciences and French as a Foreign Language department trains students and adults returning to school for careers in linguistics, didactics of French as a foreign language, language and cultural mediation, deafness, training of trainers in written French, digital pedagogical engineering for language training, language industries. It also supports those wishing to prepare a doctorate in these disciplines, within thedoctoral school of the UGA.

To ensure optimum management of its missions, the Language Sciences and French as a Foreign Language department is structured as follows two sections :
- Language sciences
- Didactics of French as a foreign language (FLE)
Together, they work for a high-level training of the department's students, as well as for the advancement of knowledge in the scientific fields covered, thus contributing to the reputation ofUniversité Grenoble Alpes.  

Training

The department offers a Bachelor's degree in Language Sciences, with specialization in various contexts (language & deafness, linguistic heritage, French as a foreign language), as well as two Master's degrees, the Master's in Language Sciences and the Master's in Language Didactics. These degrees can be taken as initial training , or as continuing education for those wishing to return to their studies.

The department's teaching staff are members of research laboratories on the UGA site, they draw on their research to inform their teaching and pass on the most up-to-date knowledge in their field. They also contribute to research training in the curriculum by supervising Master'stheses and directing doctoral studies.

Partnerships

The Department of Language Sciences and French as a Foreign Language also has a strong international presence, thanks to a number of partnerships with companies, associations and government bodies in France, particularly in the field of French as a Foreign Language. It is involved in setting up courses in its fields of expertise at universities outside France, and collaborates with several foreign universities under agreements.
