Activities

The Lettres department offers students courses ranging from bachelor's to master's degrees, covering the fields of French and Francophone literature, cultural studies and civilizations, and knowledge of the cultural sector.

Training

The Licence Lettres is designed to provide a solid grounding in French literature and language: students will study a wide range of French and Francophone literature, from the Middle Ages to the most recent works. What's more, the Licence de Lettres gives them an opening onto other cultures, through the study of world literature and/or ancient literature. The program is aimed not only at students interested in teaching, but also at those who wish to develop a broad literary culture and methods of analysis and expression to work in other sectors, such as the book trade, heritage and culture, or information and communication. The Lettres bachelor's degree offers a number of pre-professionalization courses to encourage the emergence of a professional project, and is divided into two streams: the Lettres moderne stream and the Lettres classiques stream.

The result of the reorganization of several previous Master's specializations, the Master in Arts, Literature and Civilization is an innovative combination of traditional literary courses, a sociology of art and culture course, and a professional cultural mediation course :
  • The Literature: criticism and creation course offers in-depth studies in the fields of literary studies and cultural studies.
  • The Science of Antiquity course offers students wishing to study Antiquity in its entirety an interdisciplinary training program combining philology, literature, ancient philosophy, Greek and Roman history, ancient art history and archaeology.
  • The Comparatism, Imagination and Socio-Anthropology pathway is characterized by its international and multi-disciplinary perspective on the arts. It offers students the chance to combine comparative and imaginary approaches with in-depth study of two modern languages, a specialization in the socio-anthropology of art and culture or another discipline.
  • The Diffusion de la culture course, accessible in 2nd year and professionally oriented, enables students to improve their knowledge of the cultural sector and its local, national and even international issues , to develop the ability to "write for culture", and to acquire the skills and methodology necessary for cultural action.
