Language Industries - Linguistic Data Sciences sandwich course
New Language Sciences master's course
Training
This new sandwich course combines linguistics, data science and computer science, and is aimed at students in the humanities and social sciences, language sciences, languages and literature, starting in September 2024.
The Linguistic Data Sciences / Industries de la langue work-study Master's program aims to strengthen the link between university, research and the business world in the cutting-edge fields of automatic language processing (NLP). It is designed for students from humanities and social sciences backgrounds, but is also open to students from other disciplines.
Students alternate their training between theUniversité Grenoble Alpes and the company, with an average of one week of classes per month. The companies that can recruit our students range from innovative SMEs (Comongo, Eloquant, TKM, Tétras Libres, etc.) to very large corporations (Apple, Airbus, Orange Labs, etc.). What they all have in common is that they use language materials as a raw material for their activity or as a by-product of their business. By definition, any public or private company working with language material (written, oral, multimodal) or producing such material (recordings, written traces, documentation) is likely to recruit an IDL-LDS work-study student.
The teaching team draws on the 30 years of experience of the Language Industries Master's program, teachers involved in research in automatic language processing and digital humanities, and a network of companies with which we have collaborated for many years.
Training
The 2-year Master's course is designed to provide them with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their chosen field. modeling and development of tools for manipulating spoken and written language data, using the various methods and tools of theArtificial Intelligence (AI), from symbolic reasoning systems to deep learning systems (Deep Learning), while controlling algorithmic, programming and knowledge representation dimensions.
This course is unique in France, both in terms of itsalternation and by the diversity of objects (written and spoken), approaches (analysis, synthesis) and methods (symbolic, statistical, artificial intelligence).
To facilitate the logistics of students working for companies far from Grenoble, the training is offered in two modes Distance learning: outside the beginning and end-of-year periods, students can take courses by distance learning.
The Language Industry path leads to careers as project managers in computational linguistics, linguistic engineers, TAL engineers, linguistic analysts, data scientists... These terms cover the development of applications, software and projects that manipulate language data, whether oral or written. This is a fast-growing field, thanks in particular to the use of deep learning approaches.
